ADELAIDE PROFESSIONAL ORGANISER - Order and Structure for Business and Home

Office / Workstation / Business

  • HOW PRECIOUS IS YOUR DIARY - Write in the inside cover "REWARD FOR RETURN $50" and you are more likely to see it returned if it is lost.
  • When working in an office environment, use colours to distinguish different projects, themes or committees.  It trains your eye to scan desks and work areas for colours rather than words.  After a while, you do it without even realizing.   It’s a great time saver.
  • SPARE CORDS? So many people don't know which cord goes with what.  Put them all in a box, write the date and put them somewhere safe.  Mark your diary for one year.  Those cords that aren't used within a year are unlikely to be needed anymore.

Backyard

  • POTTED PLANTS - Do you have empty containers strewn around your backyard? Keep the best ones if you are going to use them but throw the rest away - the backyard will thank you. You are probably NEVER going to use all of them.

General

  • DECLUTTERING? - Most people start in the common areas but 9/10 times, the best place to start is the main bedroom. Wake up clear-headed, go to bed clear-headed - makes all the difference.
  • ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW - When heading to the Royal Adelaide Show or functions where kids go on rides, make sure to take along some anti-germ spray. Use it on the kids after they go on the rides.
  • POWER BLACKOUTS - Are you prepared? Create a box filled with candles, matches and torches. I always reduce the amount of food in the freezer and fridge over the summer season and replace with water bottles and containers (which turn into ice). And how are you going to cook dinner if the blackout continues? Start thinking about it if you are in a blackout zone. Ask yourself how you will manage power blackouts in the heat or when it's very cold.
  • GIFT WRAPPING BOX - Create one and fill with wrapping paper, scissors, sticky tape, cards and ribbon. Also, when you have a bit of time and are wandering the shopping centre, grab a selection of cool cards and put them away. That way, you won't need to hit the shops for a card everytime it's someone's celebration. Holidays are also a great time to pick up interesting and unusual cards from markets and stalls.
  • Keep a large shopping bag near the front door.  Everytime you touch something in your house, consider whether you need, love or use the item.  If the answer is no, put it in the shopping bag.  Once the bag is full, donate to charity.
  • Buy only what you need, not what you want.  This will save you LOADS of money.
  • Think about the Pareto rule: we use 20% of our stuff, 80% of the time.
  • For every one thing you bring into the house, let one thing go.  A new pair of shoes in, an old pair of shoes out!
  • Don't put it down, put it away!
